Culinary Dinner Date - Knotted Thistle Celtic Pub

We went on this culinary sightseeing adventure last Monday, so it's a bit late. Apologies for that!

Anyways, we started off our dinner date with Jason and Joel carrying a couch down some stairs at Breann and Joel's house. Us girls definitely worked up an appetite watching them do it too! Then when we arrived at the pub after that, Jason teased Breann for driving a Ford truck. She scolded him for it, then tripped up the stairs. Karma is a bitch eh, B? *wink*

As I mention in my last culinary post, Knotted Thistle is one of Jason's fave pubs in Regina. It's never too busy, they have great food and the waitresses are mandated to wear short kilt-like skirts. Of course he likes it right? Unfortunately, this time around for us it wasn't as good as past times we've been. And for Breann and Joel's first time, I think they were a little less than impressed.

First, there was some creepy older couple practically making out in the booth next to us. Absolutely the last thing I want to see in a place where I eat food. Barf. Ugh. Thank god our drinks were good and Breann ordered some sea salt and lime wings which were quite tasty.

Jason and I had never had a sea salt and lime combination on wings before, so we were pleasantly surprised with how tasty it was.

Over the appetizer and the first part of our drinks we discussed Breann & Joel's start up catering company and how it was doing. She gave me some business cards to hand out and said it was going really well. Of course, Jason and I offered to help them out if they ever needed any. Breann said they're excited to get more jobs and are even going to cater a wedding! Jason talked with them about a food truck they want to buy and have go around Regina and stuff. So cool and expensive, but something like that around the streets of Regina or in the surrounding area would be awesome.

Here is her business card and info. Seriously, contact them if you're interested!

When our orders came we were all excited to dig into our food. Jason ordered the bangers and mash, I got a chicken wrap, Breann chose the Keith's beer battered fish and chips and Joel the Guinness burger.

I was the first to be disappointed. I got salad. *sad face* The waitress didn't even ask me if I wanted a different side. I would have liked fries. Boo. I ate the cucumbers though and my wrap was good. Still, Breann made fun of me for having rabbit food with my wrap. lol.

We also discussed planning a trip to Minot for sometime in May of this year. (Looking like the weekend after the long weekend.) There is a Scandinavian museum we all would like to see, and there is a place with trains and stuff. Oh, and of course for the shopping. We've already got a tentative hotel to stay in and everything. I've never been to Minot, so it should be fun. Jason seems to be looking forward to going as well.

Joel was also a bit disappointed. He said he couldn't even taste the Guinness in his burger because it was too 'charred'. And I don't blame him. When he showed us the burger patty itself, it was pretty much black. He was a good sport and ate it anyway. He even shared his fries with me.

The burger incident started and interesting conversation about sending food back. Between the four of us we had a fairly general consensus that we don't all really send food back that often, or at all. Kind of a neat thing to learn about each other while out for dinner, I think.

As we finished our drinks, and commented on how we could see our waitresses yoga shorts under her skirt because it was too short, we talked about our next dinner date. This time Breann and Joel are going to cook for us. Yay! Then there was a big discussion on what foods I do and don't like, and getting made fun of for not liking certain foods. Jeeez people! It's mostly a texture thing. Sigh. (I'm a picky eater, sue me.) Jason is a little nervous about having to cook for them come next time around. But I have confidence in him. He even asked Joel to show him a few things, like sharpen his knives. Boys and their toys.

Our next Culinary Dinner Date is scheduled for Monday, March 11th. Keep an eye out for the update on our food adventures the following week.
