Appetizer
Roast Beet Salad with Arugula and Fried Goat Cheese
Entree
Japanese Seafood Noodle bowl
Dessert
Molten Lava Cake with White Chocolate and Strawberry Reduction
Of course we started of the evening with wine, and more wine. Along with some chocolate sampling. There was a lot of snacking done before dinner. Period. Let's just go with that.
Watching Joel and Breann cook was a lot of fun. They're so much better at it then me, of course.

The Appetizer:
Jason was super worried I would have nothing to do with the beet salad, but I mustered up all my courage and made him proud by eating half of it!
I'm not a huge fan of beets because they often taste super earthy... like you're eating dirt. But they were not too bad when mixed with the fried goat cheese.
It really was a very gorgeous looking dish. The colours were luxurious and looked great together. The dressing was a cherry balsamic vinaigrette which was quite sweet in flavour.

The Entree:
I'm not very educated on the differences of all the Asian foods. But I can (safely) say, that I am not all that familiar with Japanese cuisine. Either way, the seafood noodle bowl was delicious! It was A LOT of food though and I only managed to each about two-thirds of it because I wanted to save room for dessert. It had scallops, which I have recently come to like, and shrimp.
Jason scarfed the noodle bowl down like it was going out of style. (He really likes Asian foods.) He even had me try the broth before the bowl was served to make sure I would like it.
The Dessert:
Molten Lava Cake.
Who doesn't like cake?
The cake was really rich and chocolaty and with the white chocolate glaze and strawberry reduction on top, it was like heaven in your mouth. The secret to making lava cake will always elude me, but I enjoy the creamy center as much as the next person.
It was a great way to end off the meal!

Overall, I really liked the meal. And I discovered another wine that I enjoy. I'm probably still not going to like beets, but that's alright. I know Jason really, really enjoyed the meal, but now he's nervous about having to host next time. (I'm sure he'll do just fine!)
We host Breann and Joel at our condo on April 9th. The menu is staying a secret. But here's to hoping everything goes according to plan and they enjoy what we have to serve them as much as we enjoyed their menu.
Keep any eye out for the next food-laden post coming soon!
